Philanthropy UK project provides detailed analysis of wealthy
As one of the activities of the Philanthropy UK project, which ended earlier this year, Teresa Lloyds book, Why Rich People Give, has been published. The book gives a detailed analysis of the approach of wealthy people to giving and their experiences as donors, placed in the context of topics such as the influences on their values, their attitudes to financial security, passing their money to their children and the role of the state. There is also a section on comparison with the US and a number of recommendations for various constituencies, including charities, government, employers and the wealthy themselves, which together would improve the culture of giving.

Microsoft co-founder merges 6 foundations to 1 family foundation
Paul G. Allen, co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, created The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation through the consolidation of six existing foundations. The new foundation will continue to focus on the Allen family's philanthropic interests in the areas of arts and culture, youth engagement, community development and social change, and scientific and technological innovation. According to the foundation, the move to a single entity will streamline the grant process and increase operational effectiveness. The six foundations were The Allen Foundation for the Arts, The Paul G. Allen Charitable Foundation, The Paul G. Allen Foundation for Medical Research, The Paul G. Allen Forest Protection Foundation, The Allen Foundation for Music and The Paul G. Allen Virtual Education Foundation.
