Telemarketing rules now protect businesses from fundraising calls
Up to 25 June 2004, only residential numbers or the numbers of sole traders and some partnerships could be entered on the UK Telephone Preference Service (TPS) register. Following revised regulations, however, limited companies and all partnerships can also register their telephone number(s) on the TPS list. This means that anyone making promotional and/or fundraising calls to any business must ensure that they are not calling a business number registered on TPS. Points for consideration for those receiving or making such calls are outlined in Corporate Registration on TPS, from the Information Commissioner’s office.
