John Pepin writes about Venture Philanthopists
An article written by John Pepin entitled Venture Capitalists and Entrepreneurs Become Venture Philanthropists is to be published in the International Journal of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Marketing. German members collaborate on Bertelsmann Foundation project
The 264 page Bertelsman publication Kultureinrichtungen in Stiftungsform, is the result of a project looking at the benefits of new governance structures for cultural institutions in Germany. Rupert Strachwitz of Maecenata is co-editor of the publication and Magnus von Wistinghausen of AEA Consulting and Marita Haibach of Brakeley are among the contributing authors.

Marilyn Wyatt’s new governance handbook to be published soon
The European Center for Not-for-Profit Law will be publishing Marilyn Wyatt’s Handbook on NGO Governance this autumn. The manual outlines the basic principles and practices of good governance and was prepared especially for nonprofit organisations in Central and Eastern Europe.
Marilyn has also published an article reviewing the work of the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe in the September issue of Alliance magazine and is due to speak on boards and ethics at a national meeting of NGOs in the Ukraine on 29 September.

Barbara Crole’s knowledge to reach Serbo-Croatian speakers
Barbara Crole’s book on fundraising (Erfolgreiches Fundraising – auch für kleine Organisationen) is to be translated into Serbo-Croatian. Only a few books are selected to be translated into the language each year.

David Dixon and Katy Raines create new consultancy
David Dixon has joined forces with Katy Raines, currently Marketing Director of Durham University in the UK, to create a new, combined consultancy which will bring fundraising and marketing expertise together under one roof. The consultancy will be named DixonRaines after its principals and will direct its attentions initially at cultural organisations in the UK and western Europe. A client base in the UK has already been established and discussions are well-advanced with clients in Germany and Sweden.

David Dixon to develop cultural fundraising programme for IFC

David Dixon has been asked by the Resource Alliance to put together a special cultural fundraising programme for the International Fundraising Congress in 2005, with the aim of encouraging more attendees from the cultural sector. He has secured provisional agreement from speakers and, once all is confirmed, would appreciate support and advice for marketing the sessions (and the conference as a whole) to fundraisers in appropriate organisations.

Blackbaud to hold Third Annual European Conference in November

Action Planning to hold Funding the Future conference
Action Planning is again working with the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO) and Third Sector, the leading voluntary sector magazine, to stage ‘Funding the Future’; the annual UK conference giving voluntary sector leaders the opportunity to meet and question lottery, statutory and trust funders. Last year’s conference attracted 1,400 delegates and the 2004 event, scheduled for 17 November, is even greater in scale, featuring 50 key decision-makers from funders addressing delegates in plenary session and then meeting voluntary organisations in each field of work in eight separate halls. The speakers include four Government Ministers and the Chief Executive of the principal distributor of Lottery funding in the UK.

Delphi legacy programme implemented by six Dutch NPOs
Delphi Fondsen- en ledenwerving introduced a new legacy fundraising programme last year. The programme is now being implemented by six Dutch non-profit organisations. In a recent article, Delphi’s consultants Arjen van Ketel and Ramses Man tell us more about the programme and the future of legacy fundraising in the Netherlands. In addition to legacy fundraising, Delphi also offers consultancy in fundraising strategy and communications, and full-service fundraising programmes.
