The Phone Room wins 'European Call Centre of the Year' award
Congratulations to David Dixon and his company, The Phone Room! On 16 September 2003 The Phone Room was named 'European Call Centre of the Year' at the European Call Centre Awards. 350 call centres across Europe competed for the Awards, run by Call Centre Focus magazine. The Phone Room was the winner in the 'Best Call Centre Under 50 Seats' category, competing against a strong field of commercial call-centres. The team of judges said that The Phone Room employed the most outstanding call centre staff they had ever come across. In August the company secured a telephone pledge of GBP100,000 from an individual donor, possibly the highest pledge ever secured in a telephone fundraising campaign.
Cascaid wins 'Fundraising Supplier of the Year' award for third consecutive year
Congratulations to Stewart Crocker and Cascaid! Direct marketing and consultancy group Cascaid have won the prestigious Charity Times Award for 'Fundraising Supplier of the Year' being classed as 'clear winners' of their group for the third consecutive year. The judges commented, "Cascaid is a winner which cannot be faulted on its drive to achieve the best results for its charity clients. Despite continual growth, this firm has never lost sight of the individual needs of voluntary groups, and has developed innovative new services in the past year to help improve best practice in fundraising."

Action Planning conference Funding the Future
Action Planning are holding a national conference on 22 October 2003 in London. Funding the Future promises to be AP's largest conference so far, with over 1000 delegates already registered. Speakers include: Fiona Mactaggart MP, the new minister for the voluntary sector; chief executives of lottery funding organisations and the chief executives of some of the UK's largest grant-making trusts, including the Sainsbury Family Trusts.

The book will form the basis of a new fundraising course to be run by the University of Bern.

ABL Cultural Consulting appoints new Senior Consultant
Dagmar Walz, formerly Restoration Project Manager at English National Opera (ENO), has joined ABL Cultural Consulting as a Senior Consultant. Dagmar worked with ENO since 2000 with lead responsibility for overseeing the company's complex and high profile £41m restoration of the Coliseum. Prior to her work with ENO, she worked as Project Manager in the public affairs department of the Royal National Theatre and in the education department of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Brakeley extends its arts and cultural arm

International Fundraising Consultancy workshop in Kazakhstan
John Baguley and Jasvir Kaur of IFC have just completed the first international fundraising workshop held in Almaty, Kazakhstan for fundraisers from all over Central Asia. The workshop concentrated on techniques for raising funds externally and also internally looking towards future self-sufficiency, but time was also spent working on ethical issues and codes of practice.
