THE BUSINESS
What range of clients do you serve?
NonproCons’ clients are both large and small nonprofit organisations with a wide variety of aims and budgets. We work with organisations right across the board: whether associations or professional bodies representing the business community; whether grant-making foundations, charities or environmental groups; whether cultural institutions or sports organisations - they all call upon the specialist know-how and broad experience of NonproCons.
How has your business evolved since it was started?
We started out as the small office of a sports organisation with just two employees. Since then the business has developed considerably, with 12-14 employees offering comprehensive consultancy and services in two main fields: association management and fundraising+sponsoring. Today NonproCons is a competent and trusted partner for nonprofit organisations. We are able to provide support, with both consultancy and practical assistance, in respect of key management and funding issues. NonproCons now has offices in Basel and Zurich.
Where will your consultancy be in a few years time?
We would like to consolidate and further develop our position as one of the leading Swiss consulting and service companies within the areas of association management and fundraising+sponsoring.
Which opportunities and threats do you see for your work in the sector and for the development of NPOs?
With increased pressure to perform and less and less means at their disposal, nonprofit organisations need more than ever to deliver specialised know-how and an efficient service. NonproCons offers nonprofit organisations professional assistance in fulfilling the tasks they wish to achieve. Our aim is to strengthen their capabilities and give them the courage to also try out new ideas. We view this as providing the potential for continuous growth and development in our business.
EUCONSULT MEMBERSHIP
Why did you join EUConsult?
We were interested in finding out how we compare to other consultancies and we wanted to see how others run their businesses. We also want to improve and increase our know-how.
With which other EUConsult members have you found the opportunity to cooperate on projects?
We have worked together with Inter-Connectie in the Netherlands. It was a very good experience. Unfortunately, we were unable to realise the project, as the client decided to end it early.
BACKGROUND INFO
Where and what did you study?
I first studied law and trained as a lawyer. Later on, I took a post graduate diploma in association management, VMI, at a Swiss university.
How did you first get involved in NPO consultancy?
As a young lawyer with my own firm, I was given the task of heading the office of a small sports organisation. My first job: organising a raffle...
What interests you most about staying in the field?
The interesting thing for me is the challenge of building a business in a still relatively new field in Switzerland, where very few such companies have been established up to now. In addition, I am fascinated by the variety and complexity of the questions that arise and the resulting intellectual challenge in finding the right solutions.
What do you do to relax and forget your consultancy work? I like to go riding and trekking. I also do a lot of reading. And I really enjoy a glass or two of good wine.
