  • BoardsCount™ looking for partners to expand service

BoardsCount™, the service that allows third sector boards to compare their practice and performance is being run again in 2008.  Participant organisations can express interest now.  New features this year include online data entry and easier summary reports so that you can more easily see how your board’s practices compare.  The service was originally developed by EUConsult member transform management consultancy in partnership with the Governance Hub, so BoardsCount™ is primarily designed around the needs of third sector organisations registered in England.  We are now looking for partners who may be able to work with us on versions for other jurisdictions.  If you’re interested, please get in touch with John Tierney on john(at)trans4mgt.com.

  • UNICEF faces storm in Germany

Allegations of the mishandling of donated funds, in particular secret commission payments made to three professional fundraisers, and weeks of criticism in the German national press have had serious consequences for the German section of UNICEF. Firstly the Chair Heide Simonis resigned and then the CEO Dietrich Garlichs had to step down. In the meantime, the DZI (Deutsches Institut für soziale Fragen, German Social Institute) has withdrawn UNICEF from its list of approved charities. UNICEF will need to improve its management and supervisory structures as well as its transparency to ensure that it gets back on the DZI list. A new Chair of UNICEF Germany is due to be elected on 10 April. In the meantime, Reinhart Schlagintweit is leading the organisation and has taken the advice of KPMG in respect of making the necessary changes.
