Letter from the chairman

2008 April

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am pleased to introduce this issue of the EUConsult Information Service.

One important piece of news is that Board Member Barbara Crole has decided to give someone else a chance to contribute to the work of the EUConsult Board. Barbara’s decision came about because of a very exciting project that she is leading, which requires a lot travelling. This means that there will be one spare place on the EUConsult Board coming up at the Annual General Meeting in Rome in June. At the AGM we will also vote on a proposal to modernise voting procedures by the introduction of online voting. As Barbara plans to join us in Rome, we will be able to thank her personally for her support of the Board’s activities and welcome her successor.

We have been busy planning for the Summer Conference and AGM which will take place in Rome on 20-22 June 2008. From our conference hotel in the heart of Rome we will have plenty of opportunity to take in the atmosphere with the great views from the hotel’s roof terrace and the short walks to the conference venue and restaurants. The John Cabot University, in the historical Trastevere area of the city, is our very special conference venue and we can look forward to relaxed summer evenings at two excellent restaurants, while enjoying some traditional Roman cuisine. As Rome is such a wonderful city, I would very much encourage you to bring your partner along – I will certainly be bringing Miryam.

We are in the final stages of putting together the programme for Rome which will include a discussion on ethics and the EUConsult Code of Ethics, an overview of the non-profit sector in Italy and a look at the movement of institutions from the public to the private sector. Do keep an eye out for the conference invitation, which will be sent out in the next couple of weeks, and make sure you register asap.

Both Francesca Zagni and Pasquale Pesce have put a lot of work into finding the right venues and speakers, with the support of Beatrice Lentati and Denise Dawes, so I would like to say a special thank you to them on behalf of all EUConsult Members.

I hope that you find this issue of the Information Service interesting and informative.

Looking forward to seeing you in Rome!

Kind regards

Daryl Upsall
Chairman, EUConsult
